BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, known for its innovation on and off the race course, was the first regatta in the world to be recognized by Sailors of the Sea Clean Regatta Program with a Silver Certificate for its commitment to improving the oceans' environment. This year the event organizers are going for the Gold certificate. Taking another giant leap forward in its conservation efforts they will be awarding prizes made from recycled glass from the 2011 event.

Gorgeous Sailing BVITortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Jan. 11, 2012—
With gorgeous sailing conditions and amazing scenery, the British Virgin Islands offer sailing enthusiasts an idyllic place to soak up the sun. The BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival is the highlight of the season in one of the world's best sailing locations.

"With seven days of fun and five events to chose from, the regatta has a lot to offer, which is probably why it attracts so many different nationalities. It's not all about hard-core racing, but we have that too. The regatta is a celebration of all that the BVIs have to offer." commented Regatta Chairman, Bob Phillips.

August 4Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Aug. 4, 2011—Like a snow ball rolling downhill, the momentum is already building as plans take shape for the 2012 BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, March 26 - April 1.
The promotional kick off takes place this week at the longest running and perhaps the biggest yachting event in the world, Cowes Week. Joining forces with Sunsail, Nanny Cay and Gill, BVI Spring Regatta will launch it’s annual campaign to make sure that the thousands of sailors and visitors to Cowes mark their calendars that in eight short months, the action will be on the other side of the pond.

April 3Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), April 3, 2011—What defines a magnificent regatta? Ask anyone who sailed in the 40th Anniversary BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival (March 28-April 3, 2011), and you’ll hear the same thing: red-hot racing, professionally run courses, a family friendly regatta village, and—of course—killer parties…exactly what sailors on 122 different competing yachts experienced at Nanny Cay—the regatta’s base—this weekend. But given that this is our 40th birthday bash, we elevated our already high standards to a new level of excellence by offering something that few regattas can match: A strong sense of sailing history, coupled with best ROI imaginable for each participant.

April 2Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), April 2, 2011—A single day of racing remains at the 40th Anniversary BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival (March 28-April 3, 2011), and the tussle for podium places is getting serious. Razor-thin margins define several classes, and Mother Nature is forecast to deliver a wild card tomorrow: less pressure. For the past two days, 122 participating boats have enjoyed 15-22 knots, so tomorrow’s question mark will test each crew’s ability to switch gears. While the party rages at the race village at Nanny Cay, the regatta’s base, everyone knows that change may literally be in the wind.

April 1Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), April 1, 2011—Despite the calendar date, there were precious few pranks occurring today at the 40th Anniversary BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival (March 28-April 3, 2011), where 122 boats assembled on four different racecourses, eagerly anticipating their starting guns. Fifteen to twenty knots and small seas greeted sailors racing in the protected waters, and classic Caribbean ocean rollers fueled surfing sessions outside of the lee of the islands. The race committees made sure to entertain, sending boats on a variety of courses, ranging from windward-leewards to scenic excursions around the numerous islands that pepper the Sir Francis Drake Channel near Nanny Cay Resort and Marina, the regatta’s base.

Holmberg Match RacingTortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), March 31, 2011—The atmosphere is crackling with excitement on the eve of racing at the 40th Anniversary BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival (March 28-April 3, 2011). The race village is open, boats and sailors are here, and everyone is psyched for what promises to be three brilliant days of racing on the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Just poll anyone walking around Tortola’s beautiful Nanny Cay Resort and Marina—the regatta’s base—and their comments are the same: It’s like summer camp for adults, sans chaperones.

Swan Image - Tim WrightTortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), March 30, 2011—Intensity levels punched up several levels today at the 40th Anniversary BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival (March 28-April 3, 2011) when racing commenced at the inaugural Gill BVI International Match Racing Championship (March 30 and 31). Eight teams rifled through ten flights of one-on-one match races on evenly tuned IC 24s, with each skipper gunning for the big prize: an invitation to a Grade-Two match-racing event at the Chicago Match Racing Center this August.
